10 Year Anniversary

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR:

Tyneside Gymnastics Club 10TH Anniversary

On Monday 2nd November 2020 Tyneside Gymnastics Club was 10 Years Old.

Starting out as TyneMet Gymnastics Club, based at Tyne Metropolitan College, the club began training for 1 hour a week with only a handful of gymnasts. Since then through the hard work and commitment of ALL our coaches and volunteers throughout the years, the club has grown in size and stature, now with over 150 gymnasts training up to 16 hours a week in our own premises.

The club has had some great successes over the years across all of our disciplines and has gradually developed into the successful competitive club you see today.

One thing that has not changed is the strength of our club’s values. We are proud to be a “sport for all” club offering gymnastics for all ages and abilities and providing opportunities for ALL our gymnasts to be the best they can be - but more importantly, to enjoy the journey. The club’s ethos is based around being child-centred where EVERYONE’S achievements are valued and celebrated.

We have endured some difficult times over the last few years, in particular our temporary closure due to fire, and now the Corona Virus pandemic. As always, we are doing our very best to keep the club operating in the best and safest way for the benefit of our members. There may be more difficult times ahead, but you can rest assured that Tyneside will be there to support our members in any way that we can.

We were hoping to mark our 10th Anniversary in a more fitting way, but unfortunately the current circumstances have prevented it. However, we will endeavour to organise a special celebratory event when the situation allows.

Tyneside Gymnastics Club is not just about achieving great things in gymnastics, but about forming bonds and friendships that will last a life time. I’d like to end by thanking each and every person who has contributed to the club’s success over the years, from our founding coaches through to the volunteers and coaches we have today. They have been, and are, the people who make this club work.

Colin Higham, Chair, Tyneside Gymnastics Club.
